Welcome to Wildside

In Loving Memory - Ros Wiley                                                                                                        It is with deepest regret I have to announce that Ros passed away peacefully and painlessly on September 4th, 2019 after a brave fight against a short illness.  She will be sorely missed by all who knew her.  The eulogy given by Keith a her memorial service can be found on the About Us page of this website.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    As Ros and myself looked after the garden on our own, her loss will clearly require a complete reappraisal of how I cope with the garden upkeep. We will keep the garden open in 2020 (dates as noted below) but beyond that we shall have to wait and see whether financial considerations allow me to continue. I would also dearly love to finish the last section, (in the Canyons), and quite possibly what promised to be the most exciting section of unfinished garden here at Wildside as a permanent tribute to the pivotal and massively underrated role she has played in the garden’s development. Please email me if you might be interested in contributing towards making this dream become a reality (ensuring also the garden continues to remain open) and I will send you more details.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          Ros and I have appreciated all your support and encouragement over the years and I thank you for your messages of sympathy at this very difficult time.         Keith Wiley

Notable amongst which are                                                                      April   (Magnolias and spring bulbs)                                                                                                                                                          May   (Azaleas, Japanese maples, Rodgersias, Wisterias, Iris, candelabra Primulas)                                                                            June  (Massed perennials especially Dieramas)                                                                                                                                      July    (Massed perennials including Agapanthus, Campanulas, Lilies)                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     Admission £7.00

The Nursery -   The nursery is not open to the public at any time but we will be selling a small selection of the plants we grow at the garden entrance on our garden open days. A selection of Ros Wiley's oil paintings and greetings cards will also be available at this point. The nursery is not open at any other times.                                                                                                                                 Unfortunately we do not have a tea-room and much of the garden is not accessible for wheelchairs and pushchairs because of the very narrow paths.  Although dogs are not allowed in the garden there is ample opportunity for unlimited 'walkies' on the moor just over a mile away prior to a visit. We do have a toilet available for use of garden visitors

Group visits  We are happy to accept groups of over 25 in number on other days in May, June & July only from 10am - 4pm.  The admission for groups of this size is £6.00 / head.  Numbers under 25 will be charged at £7/ head.  We do strongly advise that larger groups visit on a day other those listed above as we are often very busy on those days and coach parking would be difficult.           Please note there is a minimum admission charge for any group of £150 if visiting on a date                                                                                       other than those listed  above                                                                                           Should you require a pre-booked guided tour with Keith Wiley this will be an additional £50 / group (normally lasts about 75 minutes)

How To Find Us - We are less than a mile from The Garden House, close to the village of Buckland Monachorum. From the A386 at Yelverton (Plymouth - Tavistock road) follow the brown tourist signs to 'The Garden House'.  Continue past the entrance to the Garden house (or turn right when exiting from their car park, if you are combining a visit to the garden there).  Go down the hill and go straight on, turning neither right nor left. We are 400 yards past the last houses in the village, on the left, at the point where the blue road signs are indicating the road becomes unsuitable for motor vehicles.

Local B&B- There are several guesthouses and small hotels in Yelverton (3 miles away).  We have had good reports from visitors who have stayed at The Rosemont (tel 01822 852175), Harrabeer Country House Hotel (tel 01822 853302 / www.harrabeer.co.uk) and Barnabas House Bed & Breakfast (tel 01822 853268 / www.barnabas-house.co.uk .  There is also a very good local pub in Buckland Monachorum, The Drake Manor (tel 01822 853892), which also does B&B
